TRAFFIC OPERATIONS ENGINEERS

 

Scalar Consulting Group is looking to fill Traffic Operations Engineer positions (10+ years experience) with highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starters in either of the following offices: Riviera Beach, Tampa, Maitland, and Pensacola. This is a full-time position.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform traffic engineering and highway safety studies to include, but not limited to:

  • Analyze traffic operations and patterns to develop recommendations to enhance them

  • Analyze crash data to identify crash patterns, probable causes, and develop recommendations to address them

  • Conduct field reviews to identify traffic operational and safety issues

  • Perform economic analysis of recommended traffic operation and safety improvements

  • Prepare reports documenting the findings from the analysis, and the recommendations to enhance traffic operations and safety to then sign and seal. Reports include, but not limited to, Traffic Memorandum, Safety Review Memo, and Safety Study.

 

Other duties include, but not limited to:

  • Support the project manager in client relations

  • Develop presentations for project pursuits and public involvement activities

  • Provide quality control reviews

 

Requirements:

  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida

  • Bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university

  • 10+ years of traffic engineering and safety study experience, especially on Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) projects

  • Legally allowed to work in the United States

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, MicroStation, HCS, SYNCHRO, CORSIM, and VISSIM

  • Knowledgeable in FDOT and federal criteria such as the FDOT Manual on Uniform Traffic Studies (MUTS), TRB’s Highway Capacity Manual, and the AASHTO Highway Safety Manual.

 

Abilities:

  • Self-starting individual, good communicator, organizational and interpersonal skills essential to work on multiple projects at any given time under minimal supervision

  • Detail-oriented with good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to support marketing efforts

  • Read and interpret documents and interact with co-workers in small groups

  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed oral instructions

  • A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve

  • Mentor junior engineering staff to nurture their knowledge and growth

  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
